Adele is one of the great artists of her generation, and even after just 2 albums she's being talked about as one of the best singers of all time. It was her second album, 21, that saw her go from a promising young singer-songwriter to one of the biggest superstars in music, selling more than 25 million copies worldwide. But what are the best Adele songs? Even at an early stage in her career that's a hard question.
Although she has been compared to other young UK pop soul starlets like Amy Winehouse and Duffy, Adele has a style all of her own. While she is heavily influenced by old-school female R&B and jazz singers, she filters those influences through a unique, almost folkish sensibility, avoiding the vocal histrionics employed by too many of her contemporaries and sounding wise beyond her years. She found success immediately with her excellent 2008 debut album, 19, whose title was also her age at the time of release, and showed she could also pen her own tunes, often in collaboration with Eg White. In 2009 Adele won a Grammy Award for Best New Artist.
