One of the most successful American groups of all time, the Eagles tower over their peers alongside whom they emerged from the country rock scene of the early 70s. While many music fans deride the commercial angle that the group brought to the country rock sound pioneered by the likes of The Flying Burrito Brothers, The Band and Poco, there is no denying that many of The Eagles' songs are modern day classics. The number of people who continue to buy their records is incredible, with the group's first greatest hits album and the hugely popular 'classic' Hotel California, both still ranking among the ten bestselling albums of all time. Fans point to the crafted country rock of early releases such as the magnificent concept album Desperado as apogees of the style, while the fans flocking to their concerts in the new millennium (and buying the awful new album Long Road Out Of Eden) continue to fill the coffers of a modern day behemoth.
