Best John Martyn Album On Earth

Although he only ever flirted with commercial success, singer-songwriter and guitarist Martyn was a unique talent, happy to pursue his own erratic muse wherever it took him. Initially a folk artist in the Al Stewart mode, recording several albums with his then wife Beverly Martyn, by the 70s Martyn was already experimenting with jazz-influenced time changes and rhythms that also revealed his love of reggae. He is also considered a forefather of the chillout and trip-hop genres through his Solid Air and One World albums. Later albums flirted with funky MOR although in the twilight of his career Martyn was back to his experimental best. An artistic giant, and one person that no serious music fan should dare ignore. His large catalogue is worthy of deep seam mining and dozens of gems will be discovered.
