Best Mike + The Mechanics Song On Earth

Genesis guitarist Mike Rutherford's side project swiftly became a successful band in its own right, with hit albums and singles and a clear identity. While Phil Collins pursued a career outside the dormant Genesis as an actor and solo artist, Rutherford fronted himself with two Pauls, both possessing great, soulful voices: Paul Carrack of Squeeze and Paul Young of Sad Café. Since the mid 80s, Mike And The Mechanics have more than filled the gap between Genesis projects, with successful albums such as The Living Years and Beggar On A Beach Of Gold and hit singles including Over My Shoulder and their true classic The Living Years. The latter song, penned by B.A. Robertson and Mike Rutherford, which vividly and touchingly describes the grief and regret of a character who has lost his father, won the British songwriters' 'Oscar' - the Ivor Novello Award.
