Featuring Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne and Roy Orbison (1st album only), the Traveling Wilburys are one of the greatest supergroups ever assembled. Sadly they were only together for a blink of an eyelid but their two albums in 1988 and 1990 contained some fantastic tracks. Discover and vote for the Best Traveling Wilburys Songs on BTOE!
The Supergroup of all supergroups, The Traveling Wilburys was formed, by accident, in 1988. George Harrison enlisted the help of Jeff Lynne as he sought to record a new solo album, and the pair were using Bob Dylan's garage to rehearse material for the studio. Mutual friends Tom Petty and the legendary Roy Orbison, came along for the ride, and recorded the track Handle With Care. So pleased were they with the good company and the results, that plans were swiftly hatched to record an album credited to The Traveling Wilburys. The resultant Volume 1 caused a huge sensation; sadly Roy Orbison died soon after the record was released. Two years later the surviving quartet reunited to record the mischievously titled second album, Volume 3, to similar acclaim as the debut. George Harrison's untimely death from cancer in 2001 put paid to any possible reunion.
