Farewell To Chuck

In an interview this week, Johnny Depp’s onscreen Dad and founding guitarist in the World’s Greatest Rock ‘n’ Roll Band Keith Richards took a shot not only at the Beatles’ 1967 magnum opus Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band but also at The Stones response to it - Their Satanic Majesties Request.
While he dismisses Sgt. Pepper as a ‘mishmash of rubbish’ and little more than The Beatles indulging themselves because as the 60s biggest band they could do whatever they wanted, he would find millions of fans who believe that it is one of rock’s most innovative and seminal records. He’s on firmer footing however when he describes it as being devoid of roots, it would be hard to argue that The Beatles were ever blues devotees like the Stones but then again they never claimed to be.
For those who think this is an attempt to reignite the fifty-plus years battle of The Beatles vs The Stones, he even levels the same criticism at his own band’s psychedelic offering Satanic Majesties saying ‘if you can make a load of shit so can we.’
We know what we think about both albums, it's a no brainer but what about you? Let us know or go and vote for the Best Album On Earth poll. Here is a clue; Sgt. P is at Number 3. Satanic is currently Number 904.
Sorry Keef, the rest of the Universe does not entirely agree with you!
