The multi-talented Alicia Keys took the R&B and pop worlds by storm when she emerged as a precocious, 20-year-old singer-songwriter/musician with her 2001 album Songs In A Minor. A mind-bogglingly successful debut, it earned the rookie five Grammy awards and put the young Keys definitively in the spotlight, where she has remained ever since. In due course, she became the kind of multi-media superstar who regularly made TV and film appearances. Blending influences from the 70s and 80s with more contemporary flavours, Keys' music manages to appeal to several generations at once, and throughout the first decade of her career, her popularity has never wavered. Her talents have proved adaptable to other genres as well, and Keys has collaborated with everyone from Jay-Z to Jack White of The White Stripes.
