After fronting the wry indie pop trio, the Ben Folds Five, for four critically acclaimed albums, Ben Folds launched his solo career with Rockin' The Suburbs in 2001. The title track was subsequently included on the soundtrack to the animated film Over The Hedge alongside another three Folds' originals and his version of The Clash's Lost In The Supermarket. Prior to the release of the film, Folds wrote and released his second solo set, the quite brilliant Songs For Silverman, which addressed the impact fatherhood had made on his life with trademark lyrical skill. After a three-year gap Folds returned with Way To Normal in 2008. The album marked a return to the goofier humour of his previous recordings and became his highest charting album, peaking at number 11 on the Billboard charts in the USA. Folds also resurrected the Ben Folds Five for a one-off show in September 2008, with all proceeds going to charity. Folds also acted as co-writer and producer for actor William Shatner's 2004 release, Has Been.
