A gifted lyricist from a young age, Carole King later married fellow songwriter Gerry Goffin. The pair were employed at the legendary Brill Building where they penned an astonishing number of hit records including Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow for The Shirelles, Take Good Care Of My Baby for Bobby Vee, Pleasant Valley Sunday for The Monkees, and the enduring classic (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman made famous by Aretha Franklin. Following her divorce from Goffin, King left for Los Angeles and recorded with the three-piece band The City, before launching her solo career with Writer (1970). It was followed by Tapestry, the album for which she is most famous. This landmark, multi-million selling set included both the USA number 1 single It's Too Late and You've Got A Friend which was later taken to the top spot by James Taylor. Her subsequent albums Music and Rhymes And Reasons failed to repeat the astonishing success of their illustrious predecessor although 1974’s Wrap Around Joy produced the USA chart-topper Jazzman. After enjoying some low-key success on stage, King emigrated to Ireland, where she continued to write and release acclaimed albums such as Speeding Time and City Streets and in 2005 took her Living Room tour around the world garnering positive reviews wherever she played.
