Christian McBride is one of the most talented jazz bassists of his generation. He was born into a musical family, with his father and great uncle both being respected musicians on the Philadelphia scene. He played music from a young age, and attended the respected Juilliard School Of Music. Whilst still a student he started playing in Bobby Watson's band, which helped him quickly build up a positive reputation. He also played with the likes of Freddie Hubbard and Benny Golson during this time. McBride made an album alongside Ray Brown and John Clayton in 1990, before launching his career as a leader with the strong Gettin' To It in 1994. He has continued to make high quality music, demonstrating his virtuosity as a bass player. McBride has worked alongside top names in jazz such as Joshua Redman, Brad Mehldau, Chick Corea, Pat Metheny, Herbie Hancock, Bruce Hornsby, Wynton Marsalis and Sonny Rollins, demonstrating the enormous respect that he commands at a relatively young age. He has also worked with some leading artists outside jazz, such as Sting, Carly Simon, James Brown, The Roots and Diana Krall.
