Even though they did not go supernova until 1995’s (What’s The Story) Morning Glory?, Oasis never bettered the sheer swagger and panache of their debut. The rousing statement of intent on the opening track, ‘Rock ’n’ Roll Star’, presaged a collection of songs that brilliantly reclaimed rock music for the 90s, with both a sneer and a nod of respect to their spiritual predecessors the Beatles. An indication of the impact this album made on release was the way a whole generation seemed instantly to connect with the sentiments of ‘Live Forever’, and the group did not hesitate to seize the opportunity it gave them to reach for the stars. Definitely Maybe was unquestionably one of the best albums of the 90s.
