Ploughing its way through tragedy, musical differences and numerous line-up changes, the fact that Fairport Convention is still a going concern in the 21st century is testament to the enduring power of its music. In the late 60s the group invented UK folk rock, releasing three peerless albums in 1969 alone. As key figures came and went from the line-up, the group settled into a reliable middle age as purveyors of a quality brand of English folk. Unquestionably hugely influential, passionately followed and universally acknowledged as the folk rock unit by which all others should be judged.
