The recording alias for Austin, Texas-based singer-songwriter Samuel Beam, Iron And Wine released his first studio album The Creek Drank The Cradle in 2002, the arrival as quiet as the intensity of the artist. His acoustic-based, guitar slapping intricate music is primarily influenced by folk, but also contains elements of country, lo-fi indie rock and bluegrass, and has earned favourable comparisons to the likes of Will Oldham. 2004's Our Endless Numbered Days, is notable for its guarded intimacy, with Beam's sister Sarah providing hushed vocals that add to the intensity. Beam has collaborated with the USA alt-country outfit Calexico, most notably on Dark Eyes and has enjoyed increasingly strong commercial success in the USA.
