To be reminded that Lennon, the founder of the greatest musical group of all-time, was murdered over 30 years ago is in itself shocking. His iconic status, like that of his early hero Elvis Presley, will surely remain. He was a man possessed with demons and yet, he had a unique sense of humour. A man who could be cruel and loving, almost at the same time, and a man who was both hugely insecure and incredibly cocky. He was, and still is a role model for every budding flawed genius in the world. And yet, his greatest asset was having the definitive 'rock' voice; often effortless, often as a primal scream, and yet there was beauty in his nasal tone and occasional transparent vulnerability. No word greater than 'iconic' has so far been invented; when it happens it will belong to John Lennon.
