Little Feat formed in 1969 in Los Angeles, California, with Bill Payne and Lowell George (formerly of Frank Zappa's Mothers Of Invention) as the founding members. Their 1971 debut album was highly acclaimed, but failed commercially due to a lack of publicity. This pattern continued for their next two albums, and it was only with their 1974 fourth LP that they made a significant commercial impact. Fusing country, folk, R&B, blues, funk, jazz, rock 'n' roll and soul, Little Feat are still going today, although the line-up has been subject to many changes over the years. Lowell George, who died in 1979 from a drugs overdose, was widely accepted as the creative force behind the band, and the majority agree that their early era with him at the helm, was when they produced their finest work.
