Formed in 1992 in New York City, Nada Surf shot into the mainstream in 1996 with the teen anthem Popular. Legal wrangles with the record company in subsequent years brought the band’s future into question. However, they re-emerged in 2002, and in the following year released breakthrough album Let Go which went to number 31 on the Billboard independent charts and have since established critical respect and steady popularity. Led by the soft, tuneful vocals of Matthew Caws, the band makes highly melodic, upbeat alternative rock, with more than a hint of power pop influence, showcased in tracks like See These Bones. 2008's Lucky met with widespread critical acclaim.
