One of hip-hop’s most inventive groups, OutKast sprays rapid-fire rhymes over layers of space-aged beats. The Atlanta duo of Big Boi and André 3000 met in high school and were signed to a record deal as teenagers. They’ve steadily grown in artistry and daring with each release, a rarity in the boom-and-bust rap world. Along the way, they’ve incorporated a broad range of influences—from trip-hop to jungle to rock 'n' roll. Their rhymes effortlessly leap stylistic borders, making effortless segues from boisterous sex raps to naked autobiography. The result are songs that are simultaneously avant-garde objects and pop confections. Big Boi and André 3000 began to pursue separate musical paths beginning with 2000’s Speakerboxxx/The Love Below - two solo discs masquerading as a double album.
