Formed in 1993 in Oxford, England, Supergrass produced some of the most memorable hits of the 90s, and released consistently strong indie rock music in the 00s. Combining elements of punk with 60s influences, the band had a great ear for an infectious pop melody that genuinely rocks. Despite many obvious influences, the UK group always sounded fresh and original - a hard act to pull off in a climate of derivative wannabees. Material released in the 00s suggested that the band were concerning itself less with hook-laden pop hits, and more with exploring new styles and tempos, which suggested further evidence of their fundamental musicality. The band enjoyed strong success in the UK, and managed to maintain high respect from the music press. Supergrass decided to disband in 2010.
