According to the fans, this was Peter Gabriel’s finest moment with Genesis according to the fans. It must have been a shock when he announced his departure a few months after this album was released, especially in view of the fact that these songs formed the bulk of their stage show at the time. Much criticism has been aimed at Genesis and their progressive rock counterparts, but apart from being too long, this is a fine piece of music. The problem is, trying to get your head around the story that accompanies the set. My suggestion is to bin the story and simply concentrate on the music and lyrics. That way you might end up liking the music a lot and understand what some of the lyrics are about.
