The Style Council was born from the wreckage of mod revivalists The Jam and Dexys Midnight Runners, taking the strong soul influence of the mods and updating it with the sleek synthpop sounds that were so prevalent in the early 80s. All eyes were on singer/guitarist Paul Weller after he disbanded The Jam, and when he joined with keyboardist Mick Talbot in The Style Council, the duo began a whole new string of hit singles. The group's 1983 debut album, Introducing The Style Council, made quite a splash; it scored on the charts with such songs as Long Hot Summer, Speak Like A Child, and Money Go Round. The Style Council's subsequent albums proved to be just as successful, but as the 80s drew to a close, Weller decided it was time for one more change, and he reinvented himself once more, this time as a solo singer-songwriter.
