This dark, decadent and steamy album failed to sell when it was first released, in deference to what was happening on the hippie-laden west coast of America. Andy Warhol’s pets unconsciously produced one of the most influential rock albums of all time. Openly addressing drugs, sex and everything that was sub-culture, this album still smells bad. Lou Reed’s brilliantly uncompromising lyrics, together with the band’s sloppy sexuality, continue to influence. ‘Venus In Furs’, ‘Heroin’, ‘Black Angel’s Death Song’ and the magnificent ‘I’m Waiting For The Man’, it is all here in 45 minutes of untouchable debauchery. Beautifully bent, like the banana on the cover....
